Niche Validation Tracker

Companion to "Finding niches that buy."

Never design into a niche you have not checked. Validation takes ten minutes. Walmart test first: a generic cat shirt fails; a shirt for cat rescue volunteers passes. Signals to log: on Amazon, niche phrase + "shirt" with a free BSR extension (respectable ranks = the niche buys); on Etsy, bestseller badges, "in carts" counts on individual listings, and review counts on top listings. Several listings showing active carts = money moves today.

What the top designs say (learn, do not copy)

NicheWhat top designs sayHow they say itMy different angle / tighter subniche

Niche categories that hold specificity

Careers and tradesWelders, teachers, electricians, phlebotomists; a career persists for years and people wear their work identity
Hobbies with gear prideDisc golf, crochet, bass fishing, board games; hobbies churn faster, refresh designs more often
Relationships and gift occasions"To my wife," new dad, dog mom; gift buyers are the backbone of Etsy traffic and shop on calendars
Life situationsFirst-time homeowners, cancer survivors, remote workers, new grandparents; situations carry emotion, and emotion closes sales

People buy things that remind themselves, and tell others, who they are. The tighter the subniche, the weaker the competition and the stronger the "that is so me" reaction. Research tools (eRank, Everbee, free tiers) estimate search volume and competition if you want numbers behind the signals. Every validated niche goes on this list with the evidence; the list is your design queue.
