Companion to "Building a listing that gets found."
Structure: best keyword phrase first, exactly as a buyer would type it, then supporting phrases after. Etsy allows 140 characters; the first few words carry the strongest influence on search placement. Since 2025 Etsy's guidance favors concise titles, under fifteen words, key phrase up front; front-loading survives, keyword-stuffing is out.
Nursing student gift funny night shift nurse t-shirt, RN graduation gift, student nurse appreciation tee
| Listing | Your title (front-loaded, under 15 words) |

Use all 13, every listing, each a short phrase rather than a single word. Phrase matching: a search for "nurse graduation gift" returns the listing tagged "nurse graduation gift" as a closer match than one tagged "nurse" + "graduation" + "gift". Phrase order matters inside tags: "banana backpack," not "backpack banana." Finding phrases is mechanical: type your seed keyword into the marketplace search bar and read the autocomplete suggestions (literally what buyers type); scroll to the bottom of results for related searches; free tiers of keyword tools estimate volume and competition.

Repeat your title's core phrases in your tags. Listings carrying a phrase in both title and tags rank as more relevant than listings with it in one place. A new shop with no sales history gets judged almost entirely on the keywords you hand the algorithm.
| Attributes (color, occasion, holiday dropdowns): minor ranking factors, set them | ☐ |
| Description: first two lines written for humans (what it is, who it is for, why the phrase lands) | ☐ |
| Production partner disclosure on Etsy (partner name + location; two-minute setup once per partner; skipping it risks the whole shop) | ☐ |
| Thumbnail: reads at postage-stamp size (big type, strong contrast, design filling the frame); use the thumbnail crop to zoom in | ☐ |
| Supporting images: lifestyle shot, close-up, size chart, color options | ☐ |
