Your 30-day launch plan

4 min read · Staying In It

Lesson video in production

The full lesson text below is complete — the video version lands with launch.

Two commitments make this plan work. First, the sequence is deliberate: paperwork and practice before marketing, because you only get one chance to be a new business with a launch price, and wasted leads don't come back. Second, the plan assumes roughly ten focused hours a week. Running it alongside a full-time job is the normal way this business starts; the calendar blocks just shift to evenings and weekends. If you're running it because a job is ending rather than alongside one that stays, coverage after leaving employment is the benefits decision to make in the same month. Every task below points back into the lesson that teaches it, so nothing here is new information. This page is where the course becomes a calendar.

Week 1 checklist

Choose the business name; confirm it's locally clear and the Google and Instagram handles exist (Water, Drains, and the Law)
File the business license, get the EIN, open the business checking account
Bind general liability insurance and disclose commercial use to your auto carrier
Order the starter-tier kit from The under-$1,000 Kit, including the hose adapter kit and gloves
Write your wash-water policy in one paragraph: rinseless default, containment later, never a storm drain

While shipments arrive, run the $0 test from The Fit Check on two cars you can already access, and secret-shop five competitors' quotes for your pricing survey from The Menu, the Ladder, and the Price.

Week 2: practice and menu

Week 2 checklist

Detail two or three practice cars end to end using The Exterior Process and Interiors and the Protection Ladder, timing yourself honestly on each
Shoot before-and-after pairs from the same angles each time: driver's seat, carpet, wheels
Set your three-package menu with exact numbers by vehicle size, plus condition multipliers and the travel radius
Set up the card reader, the booking calendar, and the deposit rule text you'll send with every confirmation
Build the Google Business Profile fully: service area, hours, menu, first photos

Your timed practice runs set the prices, not your optimism. If a full detail takes you four hours at careful speed, the pricing math from The Menu, the Ladder, and the Price already told you what it must charge.

Week 3: launch

Week 3 checklist

Send twenty individual launch-price messages from Your First Ten Cars; book three to six
Announce on one neighborhood platform plus Nextdoor, with the same launch offer and a real deadline
Run every booked job with the full loop: filmed walk-around, service, narrated handoff, review link sent on the spot, referral ask
Upload photos and request reviews the same day, every job, no exceptions
Log every job's money and miles in the system from The Money System

The launch price has a stated reason (building photos and reviews) and a stated end date. When it ends, it ends. The first customers pay the launch price once and the real price forever after.

Week 4: convert and compound

Week 4 checklist

Message every week-three customer the maintenance-plan offer from Reviews and Recurring Revenue
Hang fifty door hangers on the streets where you detailed cars
Follow up every unconverted quote once, by name, with one sentence
Review the month: hours detailed versus hours on business, revenue, costs, miles, what the numbers say versus The Honest Money's worked example
Set month two's targets: bookings per week, review count, one process to fix

By day thirty you should have a working profile with five or more reviews, a tested menu, real photos, a small referral chain, and a month of honest numbers. That is a business. Small, but real, and every part of it now compounds.

The launch plan ends where the business begins. Everything after day thirty belongs to the business, not to the plan.
