Layer one: services
Lesson video in production
The full lesson text below is complete — the video version lands with launch.
Here is the layer gurus skip, because it is unglamorous and it is the one that pays first. Sell your expertise as a service to the niche your engine serves. The audience does not need to be big. A person publishing to 300 readers who all run dental labs can invoice this month. The same person waiting on ad revenue waits a year.
Operators who built content businesses alongside real income describe this as the bridge: service work paid the bills while the audience compounded, and the audience, in turn, made the service easier to sell every month. The two feed each other.
What the service is
Return to your unfair knowledge from The Fit Check. The service is that knowledge applied to one client's problem:
- Consulting or advising: a monthly retainer for your read on their situation. Former corporate operators sell this constantly.
- Done-for-you work: you produce the thing your engine teaches. Teach newsletter systems, write newsletters for two clients. Teach video, edit video for operators in your niche.
- Coaching or training: one-to-one calls or small-group sessions walking people through the transformation you name in your content.
Your unfair knowledge decides which of these you sell. When the strength is admin and operations rather than a niche craft, the virtual assistant service course is the better-shaped business.
Price by value and by the month, not by the hour. A $400 monthly retainer for defined deliverables is easier to sell than hourly work, easier to renew, and it is the exact input the stack math in What Creators Actually Make used. Two clients at that number is $800 a month. That covers the entire cost of running this business with change left over.
Selling with a small audience
The engine is your proof of competence. Every piece you publish about a narrow problem is an audition for solving that problem for money. Then you do the thing nobody wants to do: you ask directly.
Hi [name], I have been publishing [engine topic] for [audience] for the past few months. I noticed [specific thing about their business: a page, a process, a recurring mistake you see]. I help [audience] with exactly this: [transformation sentence], usually as a monthly retainer at $400. If it is useful, I can show you what the first month would look like on a 20-minute call this week. If not, no hard feelings, I will keep reading your stuff.
Send ten of those. The specificity does the selling: you demonstrated that you looked at their world, not just their wallet.
The graduation path
Services are time-for-money, which means they do not scale and they do not compound. They are the bottom layer, not the top. And if client work turns out to be the part you love rather than a bridge, the catalog has whole courses for service businesses, including a social media marketing agency. Over the coming months, the same questions will arrive from clients and readers over and over. Each repeated question is a product waiting to be built, and by Layer Four of the stack you will know exactly what it is, because your clients already paid you to answer it.
The next layer takes longer to arrive but starts earning while you sleep.
Keep going — you're working through The Creator Income Stack.
