Building a Listing That Converts
Lesson video in production
The full lesson text below is complete — the video version lands with launch.
Your listing is the only part of this business the customer ever sees. Traffic is rented from Amazon and paid for in ads; the listing is where that money converts or evaporates.
Read the page before you write anything
Open page one for your main keyword and study it as a shopper with money. Note the price cluster, the photo styles everyone uses, the review counts, and what the top listings all fail to say. Your listing exists to win clicks from that page and then survive the product page comparison. Conversion benchmarks run around 10 to 12 percent for healthy products; when you start getting real traffic, that is the neighborhood you are aiming at.
The title: keywords front-loaded, brand last
Amazon indexes your title heavily, and shoppers scan it in search results. Formula: main keyword plus the two most important qualifiers, material or size or use case, then your brand name. "Silicone Spatula Set, Heat Resistant to 600°F, One-Piece Steel Core, 3-Pack, BrandName." Readable, keyword-dense, honest. No promotional noise in titles; it reads as spam and Amazon suppresses it.
Bullets: answer the objections you mined
Remember the one-star reviews you gathered in "Finding a Product Worth Your Cash"? Each bullet is an answer to one of those complaints, stated as a benefit. Five bullets: what it is and who it is for, the material and durability claims, the fit and compatibility specifics, what is in the box, and the guarantee. Specific numbers beat adjectives; "heat resistant to 600 degrees" outsells "ultra premium quality," every test, because specific claims are believable claims.
The image stack: seven slots, each with a job
The main image is white-background product-only, Amazon requires it, and its only job is earning the click against neighbors. Then: an in-use lifestyle shot, an infographic carrying your three key specs, a dimension diagram, a before-and-after or comparison graphic if honest, a what's-in-the-box shot, and a closing image carrying your guarantee. On a lean budget, a good product photographer is worth more than a good product idea; marketplace-quality photos cost far less than a redesign and move conversion more than almost anything else you can buy.
Keywords and the backend
Your title and bullets carry your main keywords. The backend search terms field catches the long tail: misspellings, synonyms, Spanish equivalents, use-case phrases. Do not repeat words already in the title; the space is finite and repetition wastes it. If you enrolled in Brand Registry per "Account, Entity, and the Rules You Cannot Break," A+ content replaces the plain description with branded modules, and it lifts conversion for exactly the effort of an afternoon.
Price: positioned, not discounted
Match the page-one cluster or sit a dollar under it at launch. Deep discounts at launch read as cheap, attract return-prone bargain hunters, and gut the margin you calculated in "Vetting the Numbers Before You Spend." Your price is a positioning statement on a shelf full of alternatives; you are the new entrant buying trust with a clean listing, not with the lowest number on the page.
The listing is loaded, the freight is docked, the account is clean. Next comes the launch.
